IS OBAMA A HYPOCRITE? his pushes for more benefits for gay couples!?

working for federal govt and yet!!! goes along with policy of military kicking gays out? if a a gay person can be a good commander in military and can do the job, why discriminate? seems like a doublestandard to me, and iam not gay! but think if a person can do the damn job, let them!!! as long as they do not flount the lifestyle!IS OBAMA A HYPOCRITE? his pushes for more benefits for gay couples!?
Obama is just trying to appease the gay community. He said it himself: he's not particularly in favor of homosexuality.IS OBAMA A HYPOCRITE? his pushes for more benefits for gay couples!?
I agreed with you until you said ';as long as they do not flaunt the lifestyle.'; First off, its not a lifestyle, its a sexuality, therefore its only one part of a person's life. A lifestlye is something in a person's life that has the person involved in it on a daily basis and they think about it almost all the time. Life doesn't revolve around sex, so being gay isn't a lifestlye, its a trait. Another thing, gays should be able to flaunt it if they want. Why can straight men be able to talk about their wives or girlfriends to other guys in the military, but gay men can't talk about their husband, or boyfriend? I honestly don't see Obama as a hypocrite yet. There's many other issues going on right now that are way more important to focus on then gays in the military. Don't get me wrong, gays in the military should not be discriminated against, but that's not as big of an issue as the economy, or possible war with North Korea due to all of their missiles and nuclear weapon testings recently. There's so many issues that I haven't even listed that are more important. Give the man a chance, he's taking care of things one at a time. It's better to do each thing little by little then to try and just do it all in one big shot and then you can't focus on smaller details.
I totally agree. I'm all for Obama, but that is kind of hypocritical on his part. Being a president is hard! I'm guessing that he's trying to meet some where in the middle, he wants the homosexual community to be happy but he also doesn't want people to lose faith in the military. Of course you can be gay and perform outstandingly in the military!! But for centuries the military has been all about being traditional and for Obama to try and change that would cause even more hatred towards him. That is the only way I can see it...
It's easy to blame or pigeonhole Obama, but in truth, the system was damaged long before he stepped into office. It seems to be taking a very long time for progress to happen, but it's really the exact opposite - it is HUGE that five states now offer legalized gay marriage in six months' time, and to have federal backing for gay couples is something the GLBT community didn't even dream of during eight years of Bush.

In a perfect world, Obama wouldn't have to pander to the conservative majority so much - he wouldn't have gaffs where he compared gay marriage to incest, and ';Don't Ask, Don't Tell'; would be a thing of the past. Still, he's working with what he was given - officially declaring June as GLBT Pride Month may be a baby step, but he's trying. I have a lot of respect for him because of that.
There's very few things I agree with Obama on... but this is one of the few. The ';don't ask, don't tell'; policy does just what you SAY you are for. They ONLY kick out a gay if he/she flaunts their homosexuality. They keep their sexual orientation to themselves... no problem.

It's one thing to have 9-5 job where you put in your hours, go home, and not see your working buddies (if you choose) until the next day. So federal employees are vastly different than being in the military where you eat, sleep, work, socialize, and are generally FORCED to be around those you work with almost 24/7... especially in a wartime situation... which the military always has to be ready for. So it's not enough to ';do the damn job,'; my friend.
you have to be patient.........I really do think he will do something about the ';Don't ask, don't tell'; policy. He can't do everything in a year and honestly gay rights aren't the most popular thing in the world...

I think if he doesn't get it done soon, he will do it in his second term.
He loved us in November. He took our money, our labor, our support and now is treating us like second class citizens again.

He's nothing more than a Chicago hack politician. At least we could be angry at Bush... this guy is supposed to be our friend!

We had it better under Reagan except for his blind side on HIV.
That is very hypocritical.

People just seem to be scared of gays and don't want them to fight for their country. Which is stupid.

If you don't think gays should be in the military give me a few good reasons why. I doubt you can find any.
Yes. All human beings are hypocrites in one way or another.

Look at all the conservative republican chickenhawks that SAY they ';support'; wars, but will never enlist and go fight for what they claim to believe in.
Honestly, Barack Obama has much, much more urgent things to deal with right now. But I won't deny that his attitude toward Gay Rights is much too passive. He needs to stand up and fight for what he promised us during his campaign.
No he is not.
