Why shouldnt it be legal for gay couples to be married?

The way I see it if you're an adult and your partner (or partners) are adults what you do is your business.





And don't give me this crap about marriage being only allowed for straight people because they can create families. Bull S--T. If that were true, it'd be illegal for infertile people to marry.





Also, I hate how some people claim it erodes ';traditional'; marriage. Traditional my big behind. I don't see any of these ';traditionalists'; trying to bring back dowries or arranged marriages (not that I have a problem with the cultures that practices these). Cultures change and evolve over time, often for the better. Marriage is not static. Marriage today is nothing like marriage was years ago. Let it change.

I had this conversation with my sister once.


we both agreed that if you love someone, you should be able to marry them, no matter if it's a straight couple or gay.


There is loads of things against the bible, yet people still do it.


There's is plenty of people who have sex before marriage and yet they are still allowed to marry, why? If it's against the bible, then they should not be allowed to do so.


So then, why can't gay couples get married? It's weird.
im all for that other thing where all the legal things are taken care of . its called civil union


but marriage is well matremony its religious and almost all religions i can name are against gays.. in theory i mean.. so its like ruining peoples beliefs in a way.. i dont see the problem in a civil union its basically just as binding..


i just think gay people getting married would basically change the whole belief that comes along with marriage and its not completely fair
I'll start by stating my belief on the basis on why the institution of marriage exists. I believe it is primarily and most importantly a covenant to have and raise children under a particular belief or cultural way of life. In other words to protect a family's traditions or on a bigger scale , to raise children in a community where shared beliefs and rules abound and for the most part suceeds because of the rules of marriage and the attached ';it takes a village to raise a child'; mentality.


I believe if a couple chooses not to have children then they should not marry but are still somewhat responsible in ';looking out for trhe children'; but with much less scope of responsibility.





i wonder what would follow after legalization of gay type marriage would be. Will we witness a push be for group or township marriages? would there be a a scientific push to create androgenous beings? Will communities come into existance for the sole purpose of rearing childrin raised under a particular doctrine? And what about those who marry and/ or have children for the tax exemption? Abolish taxes?

It shouldn't be legal because MARRIAGE is defined as the union between ONE WOMAN and ONE MAN.





I have no problem with GAY COUPLES having a CIVIL UNION.





But if you think MARRIAGE is for GAYS, you've missed the POINT of marriage.
Apparently it all has to do with stuff from the bible and a definition in the dictionary. Methinks some people can't handle the thought of buttsex.
I think they shouldn't get married because if they do they influence little kids and since they don't know what's right or wrong they would want to do it too.

You're not going to get any *real* answers why they shouldn't be able to marry.

I have to make some comments about some of the other posts on here.


First off, marriage was NEVER defined as between one man and one woman until about 10 years ago. The right wing freaked out because they realized the constitution at the federal and local levels had nothing in them keeping gays from getting married. So they amended the constitution to fit their agenda and that's when marriage was defined as between one man and one woman. Plus christians did not invent marriage they just incorporated the philosophy of marriage into their religion. Marriage dates back to before christianity and it has always been just a combining of assets. Same sexed marriages were performed by the vatican during the middle ages. So, in short those of you who think that marriage is between one man and one woman are seriously confused about what marriage is. Do your research, marriage was intended for anyone to enter a contract that legally binds their lives and assets.





Secondly, children are not badly influenced by gay people. I don't really know what you mean by kids will see it and want to do it but all the research out there shows that same-sex parents raise just as well adjusted children as heterosexual couples. Furthermore, most gay people come from a family where the parents are heterosexual. So from your own flawed logic it is heteros that influence kids to be gay. Once again you need to do your research. All kids play show and tell with their private parts and this has been going on for ages. Kids want be gay just because they see people being gay. Sexuality is not learned and that has been proven time and time again.





Thirdly, township marriages, scientific androgenous beings, and whatever convoluted reprocussion you can try and fabricate to justify your prejiduces has nothing to do with same sex marriages and the agenda of the gay community. Look at other countries that have acknowledged same sex marriages. They have NONE of the outrages consequences that you are masking your prejiduce with.
