It depended on location and social standing. During the middle ages the majority of the serfs and servant classes slept in the main hall of the manor they srved. Often times so did the family they served. It was not until after the crusades that the knights returning home sort setting aside rooms just for the use of themselves and their families. It wasn't until the 1500's that separate sleeping quarters were provided for most of the middle class and upper class. At that time it was common for husbands and wives to have separate sleeping quarters, that lasted among the middle class and upper classes until the turn of the 20th century (1900).Did married couples sleep together in the middle ages or reinassance?`?
I don't know if they slept in the same bed, but they definately fornicated. There was also a lot of infidelity, just like there is today, but it was easier to get away with b/c sex was not discussed and people just turned the other cheek. Maybe people were hornier back then b/c they sure wore a lot of clothes which left everything to the imagination! They had sex obviously but they had separate beds. Just look at the old shows like ';I Love Lucy'; Lucy and Ricky had two separate beds in their bedroom. Thank God we are not such prudes these days and we can actually put one big nice bed in our bedrooms!
Yes, though among the upper classes it was common to have separate bedrooms.
Have you seen those huge dresses? They took up a king size bed themselves- no room for the man.
